Professional development

This school that I work closely with is embracing an inclusive program of special educational needs children. They have created awareness in their community and carry out sensitization programs such as creating fairs where information are shared, open day to display students work, assemblies to sensitize the other students how to embrace diversity.

Teachers are enrolled in a continuous professional development workshop in Special Education. The principal ensures that lesson plans include differentiated instructions and he monitors teachers while they are teaching to ensure that they carry out their lesson plan.

This is a great initiative by your school. Continuity with professional development and monitoring educators on their progress is the way forward.

What is done at your school is very similar to what is done in schools in my country. Teachers are always engaged in professional development workshops in order to continue with best practices and to be kept up to date on what is taking place in education especially when it comes to meeting the needs of all our children. There is also continuous monitoring and evaluation of teachers, curriculum planning and delivery ensuring that the needs of all children are being met.
