Describe some professional development training that you have experienced that you felt was very effective and helpful, and made a difference to your practice. Say briefly why you found it helpful.
Some professional development training that I have found to be helpful were:
The Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) preparation workshop that focused on the Assessment Framework 2019 - 2023. As an SEA teacher at the time, it assisted in helping me make my teaching more intentional. Workshops were held in Mathematics, English Language Arts and Creative Writing. It helped to give some level of focus to teaching, especially to those students who were having challenges.
Using Open Educational Resources for Online Learning: an Introduction, a course offered as a collaborative effort by the Commonwealth of Learning and the Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago. It made a difference as it facilitated online learning which was a new environment for teaching/learning for the primary school. The knowledge gained has actually been used, and is being used, by me, especially as it relates to use of technology and online resources to enhance the teaching/learning experience.
Introduction to Jolly Phonics Reading programme by Sue Lloyd. This programme, I believe, revolutionized the teaching of reading in the Infant department. I had direct interaction with the creator of this series and since using it, the results have been phenomenal. The way the linkages were made with reading and writing helped to develop better, more fluent readers.
