School policies to support inclusive education

My absolute favourite idea from the list about systems to be in the school inclusion policy to help children such as Luis is the Peer Buddy System.

This system reminds me of Vygotsky scaffolding theory so much. The Peer Buddy System not only affords support to children whom may be dealing with disabilities/ language barriers but it is a system where beautiful friendships can be forged. A positive school culture can be created where peers value each other. They value the similarities and differences among themselves. Because of lack of knowledge, children may have misconstrued perceptions of children with disabilities and through this system many of these misconceptions can be resolved. Children's self esteem and self confidence would increase by getting the support and assistance needed as they work together learn through meaningful experiences. This system can also promote autonomy in children dealing with disabilities/ language barriers.

In small group activities, children can in turn share what they would have learnt from the friends they would have made through this system. The Peer Buddy System is definitely one that should be installed in every school.
