"favourite idea"

I think that all children especially disabled or differently abled children should have someone to play with during break times. these are times when socialization occurs most and this is important for these children to have a sense of belonging and not be labelled because as silly as it may sound, when they are not included, they stand out even more as being disabled. Schools should adopt the buddy systems to ensure inclusivity and even try having structured activities that they enjoy being hosted by these buddies to help them out.

Bridget, I too believe that children with disabilities should be able to play with others during recess. As you correctly stated, socialization occurs the most during this time, and it is critical for these children to have a sense of belonging and not be labelled while interacting and socializing with their friends in a meaningful way. Another valid point raised is the adaptation of the buddy system by schools to ensure inclusivity and the attempt to structure activities that they would enjoy as their buddies host while also helping them out. That is an excellent idea for their friends to host the activities in which they would participate. As a result of these practices, the children will undoubtedly feel a sense of belonging and worth.

I agree with you in regards to socialization. We were all created as social beings. It is part of us, it`s our nature. Loneliness hurts, especially our special students. Friendship develops our sense of belonging.

Oh yes play, the work of children. and being disabled does not stop you from enjoying being a child.
