"students attend school everyday".

This is a challenge. School buses run everyday, but students start to be absent by the second semester. This is a constant battle since it seems that it's the students who are the head of the household.

How can we get them to come to school every day and participate in their own learning?

What I would like to add is to "Supportive partnerships with parents in their child's learning."

"All students are engaged in all lesson activities."

Sourcing materials has always been a challenge. So it will be difficult for all to be engaged.

I agree with both statements from Victoria and Lisa.

How can we get them to come to school every day and participate in their own learning? Involve the parents; show them the benefit of their child/children coming to school regular.

I also agree with your statement I've had experiences where parents keep children away from school because they don't like to hear them crying after they have dropped them off for the school day. As the teacher how are you to treat with such a situation when you have the child's best interest at heart?

Activity 3.9: Monitoring tools

Hello Sherill,

I am quite familiar with the sentiment you shared of the reasons a parent would keep a child away from school.  In another instances similar to yours that I have experienced is learning that a preschool aged child was kept away from school simply because the older siblings were not attending school that day. So not to be inconvenienced by having to do the drop off and pick up it of one child it was decided that everyone would stay at home. We can only hope for the best.
