Based on various research it has shown that schools with a strong sense of ethos have a higher levels; of teacher retention, achievement, success and a better overall performance. Ethos and culture are both very imperative when focusing on inclusion, as they are sometimes passed down from generations based on the communities. One experience I always treasure is one in which I worked at a community based school, they welcomed anyone and everyone at the centre, they also celebrated all events and made sure that all special events were recognised. In addition, the staff always worked as a team at times they always agree to disagree in certain matters but there was always a positive resolution. I was also amazed at their inclusiveness as a past student who had a disability and were in a wheelchair, asked to assist the teachers twice a week on various task within the classroom. This student was very helpful and the children of the school welcomed him with a positive attitude at all times. Therefore I believe two contributing factors in creating a positive school ethos and culture are good relationships and positive behaviour/attitude in the classroom and the wider community.
