Developing positive attitudes

My experience in the Early Childhood setting is, there was a little boy who was unable to speak properly. He would clench his jaw and murmur what he is saying, no one understood what he said. He also clench his jaw when he was eating, his fruit and lunch was crix biscuit. He would always shake his head to respond at times. We did not have a support staff so, my colleagues and I used various strategies to assist him. He was not excluded from the normal setting, he followed the daily routine. After some time and dedication he left our Centre talking and eating food.

Glad to hear this. Please, can you share some of the strategies that you used Shalini so that we can learn from you?

Hi Rose,

Some of the Strategies we used were:-

Keeping him close and paying more attention to him during daily activities. In this way he trusted me and he felt comfortable. I spoke to him more. I rewarded his progress when he said a word without clenching his jaw and also when he ate a fruit and not the biscuit. Frequent conversations with his parents about his progress was done and also ensuring he was rewarded at home as well.
