Creating an Inclusive School is an ongoing process. There are challenges that you may meet along the way but the important thing is to make a start.
This course provided us with plenty of information with evidence that creating Inclusive schools is possible. The information on ethos and culture is an area that I felt is important because it shows us that if administrators and teachers have a positive attitude towards inclusive education, then they will do anything they can to ensure that they advocate and provide students with the most enabling environment and support that each student needs. If this practice is consistent and supported, then it becomes part of the school culture.
The teachers cannot do this on their own, they need training and support. Therefore, collaboration among the school, the parent, community and other stakeholders is important to support the students. The proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" is one that I like and believe in, especially when it comes to inclusion. Students with disabilities or SEN, directly or indirectly need the support from these individuals for them grow and succeed in inclusive settings. The focus of Inclusive education is on the child, therefore, whatever decisions, plans and actions is centered on them. Team work is imperative in creating Inclusive Schools
