Activity 4.10: End of course assessment - Bringing it all together

One of the major take-aways from this course is the need for more collaborative initiatives with parents, teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.

Working with parents and external stakeholders would help to see the need for resources to help create more inclusive friendly learning environments for current students and students who are yet to come through the education service. Getting more fundraising activities, sponsorships, donations would go a very long way in getting the financial stability to acquire the necessary resources for academic institutions.

Agreed, there is a need for families, stakeholders etc to buy into the idea of inclusivity and the way to do that is to educate and include them in the process in order to provide the funding for the necessary resources needed

I agree with you Yuva. Creating an inclusive friendly environment is a critical factor. When I think of inclusion, I think of all hands on deck for  successful inclusion to work. Inclusion means collaboration among all stakeholders.

Bringing it all together

What I have learnt from this course is that just saying we have students in the school with various challenges does not make it an inclusive school. An inclusive school involves all stakeholders, parents, medical and non- medical professionals and the community.

It is continuous planning, implementation and reviewing on a regular basis. We also have to understand that one size does not fit all, and making adjustments to teaching strategies and curriculum is vital for the success of an inclusive school.

I have learnt a lot and feel confident in implementing this knowledge with staff and all stakeholders in order to bring about change at my ECCE Centres. Thank you for the  support from my colleagues and the staff at OU.
