1.5 Inclusive ethos and culture

I remember visiting a school and on entering you can feel the warmth and genuine caring the teachers feel for their charges. They have an open door policy whereby parents can come in on given days and times to speak with their child's teacher. I found this was a positive gesture in contributing to the inclusive ethos and culture of the school.

The school which I am a part of, we try to create that sense of welcoming atmosphere to help forge healthy relationships between families and our 'school family'. We have found that when people feel a sense of belonging, the experience is beneficial in some way or the other for all.

At the school where I work we allow parents to choose a day where they can come and read a book for the children. The parents feel a sense of welcoming at all times.

More schools should share this approach. This allows for parent and teacher, to be on the same level when it comes to the child's ability to learn.

ethos and culture

At my school we practice that open door policy and the teachers and parents share a warm and very family like relationship.  we have become well know for this and new parents always tell us that they heard about the school through past parents, and that we were highly recommended as being very loving caring teachers. This greatly warms our heart and motivates us to always doing our best to ensure that we maintain a great relationship with all parents.

Well said. Having a warm welcoming relationship with parents makes the parents feel more comfortable in the environment. If all stakeholders  work together they will be able to promote a positive attitude towards diversity. Each layer of the community have its role to play.

This is a great initiative to get parents involve in the daily school schedule.

I like that initiative where school builds on relationship with home and the community. I think it makes the process of inclusion more relevant and therefore encourages learning all round
