As an educator, one of the most crucial and sensitive areas of teaching is managing children’s behaviour. Managing children’s behaviour should be done by the use of strategies, observing and keeping record of their improvement over a period of time.
Some strategies that I have personally used and found quite helpful to manage behaviours were taking away privileges such as play time or any activity that the children love to do. If children learn that their behaviour may have consequences that takes away things that are most valuable to them, they would pay cognizance to the way in which they behave and react.
Another strategy is delegating extra responsibilities to an overactive child. This would allow the child to use their energy in a positive way rather than disrupt an entire class. The child would even feel a sense of importance and will positively reflect on his or her self-esteem level.
I always believe a teacher disposition and attitude plays an important role of how children react and how children behave in a classroom setting. A teacher must always keep their calm and coolness even when dealing with children.
