Strategies to use with Luis

We know that children with Down syndrome can learn. They are visual learners, and they understand a lot more than they can say. Besides, they can follow classroom rules and routines.

As they need help to remember instructions, we should use shorter phrases or visual clues.

Tactile demonstrations and activities also appeal to them. We should also speak directly to them, using clear language and short sentences, and use appropriate and unambiguous facial expressions.

We should also remember that setting up and scaffolding situations for learning by imitation and we need to plan activities that become part of their routine.
