Activity 1.5: Creating an inclusive ethos and culture

The values and attitudes that makes a school comes from the practices implemented by the staff. For example, when the staff observes a child's birthday or when parents volunteer for activities such as gardening builds children's interest and curiosity.

When staff demonstrates a warm welcoming attitude, the culture and environment of the school reflects that. Children will be motivated to come to school, and the staff will be willing to go the little extra to get things done. The school will have a certain standard of excellence.

Hi Farrah,

These are simple yet effective ways to promote positive attitudes toward an inclusive culture. Many times we overthink the idea of inclusion and find it challenging to achieve, however the simple things we do matter and the smallest changes we make day by day will contribute to change in a more complex way. I agree that these gestures would add meaning to lives of students.

Yes indeed, when we show positive attitude it reflects on us and the school environment, also the child can sense when our behaviour changes.
