3.2 Experiences of Professional Development

Briefly describe a professional development experience which challenged your thinking or helped you to improve your practice. Say why you found it to be effective.

I attended a Reading Workshop that did not just focus on the rudiments of reading but incorporated activities such as Literature Circles, Read Alouds, and Reading Corners. It made reading come alive and made it more interesting for the students. Having children read intentionally was the bonus for me and it changed the way I taught reading. I found it to be effective because some of the reading material that we were encouraged to create would come about from input from students. Children love to create and tell stories so giving them that opportunity allowed them to bring something into existence that they could share with their peers. Materials that they can relate to helped to improve their reading fluency.

This was great Alicia. Any SBTPD should translate to effective teaching for the learners' benefit.
