Activity 1.7 Monitoring inclusive schools

I work in a school where teamwork definitely makes the dream work. My colleagues and I always work together to get the job done. We learn and draw from each other, we help out each other in our weak areas and benefit from each other strengths. We plan all events and activities together, always making sure to get one another’s input or idea. In the end, we have successful events and we see the improvement and development in our little learners, overall performance. Be it, in their behavior, attitudes, their social skills or the academic performance.

In all of our lessons, children are given the opportunity to use “the talking stick”. Once it’s their turn to hold the talking stick, they are allowed to speak and express themselves. They can tell stories, ask questions and give feedback in a class discussion. This helps to boost their self-esteem and confidence, it helps to develop their language, their social skills. Once they get accustomed to this, we see development, improvement, pride and confidence over a period of time. This also has improved attendance, because now they look forward to coming to school to share their stories and experiences with us.
