Activity 1.2 Features of an Inclusive School

The features of a school determine whether or not the school promotes and facilitates inclusive education. Two important features of an inclusive school are supportive attitudes from staff members and pupils and adaption of lessons to facilitate each child's individual needs. Supportive attitudes toward inclusion will increase the chances of successfully achieving and maintaining inclusion in a school. Likewise, adapting lessons to ensure that they are developmentally appropriate and facilitates each learning style, is essential for providing equal opportunity for each student.

Such features are implemented at my place of work by welcoming all children, adapting learning activities to the various levels of development for each child as well as by hosting cultural events that embrace diversity in culture. Our students are also encouraged to respect differences and treat others the way they would like to be treated. While these measures are important, I have learned that there is always room for improvement since inclusion is progressive and strategies should be continuously be adapted to meet the needs of the ever-changing school population.
