Activity 1.4 Developing Positive Attitudes

I remembered having observed a young child in my practicum assigned class. The child had a speech delay. One day in the Science Centre the child was unable to request that he wanted to use the magnifying glass, so he grabbed away the magnifying glass from his peer and pushed her.

The girl's parents heard of the incident and suggested that this child should be removed from the Centre and attend a special school. However, I was able to speak to the parents and help them understand that all children must be afforded an opportunity to learn, and that no child must be excluded because of their special need. Eventually, this particular child with the speech delay was able to develop and use expressive language to state his requests. I assisted the teachers at this preschool in research and implemented strategies base on expressive language. The strategies greatly assisted this particular child in expressive language. All children must be given extra support to help them achieve.
