1. Expanding the curriculum beyond Academics and celebrating their achievements
This is an important factor as it allows students to feel appreciated and wanted, it helps build their self esteem and gives them a sense of belonging. it allows them to be able to participate with their peers while doing something they enjoy. It also builds positive attitudes among peers. Celebrating their achievement also help with achieving some of theses goals. It not only fosters positive attitudes among staff and students but is always an opportunity to involve the community and stakeholders in celebrating the students and bring awareness to how inclusion can work.
2. Ongoing Professional development and Teacher support
Another key factor, many teachers claim that they are not equipped to help students with disabilities. Targeting each school according to their strengths and weaknesses and providing tailored professional development goals, while providing mentorship and ongoing support for teachers both within the staff and outside the staff can foster a positive attitude.
Hi Denise,
I support the idea of openly celebrating children’s achievements. Whether it be at the point in time when the child made the achievement or during a special event, acknowledging and celebrating achievements can certainly build children’s self-esteem and inspire them to keep striving for greater. I understand the value of being appreciated by others and so making the children feel important and valued is a great idea when it comes to creating and inclusive ethos and culture.
I also liked that you mentioned that many teachers claim that they are not equipped to help students with disabilities. Ongoing professional development goes a long way. Whether it be as a requirement by the administration or a personal desire to enhance one’s knowledge and skills in the field of work, continuous professional development can enlighten teachers of new approaches to achieving inclusion as well as inform them of resources the can make or measures they can take on they own.
All in all, creating an inclusive ethos and culture requires deliberate effort by teachers and other stakeholders. As such, the points you presented are valuable stepping stones that can be implemented.

Yes teacher need keep abreast of time because there are new development each day.
I totally endorse ongoing professional development and support. We live in an era where every learning tool, platform and learning institution is made available to us for educating ourselves professionally. Teachers are sometimes challenged teaching the average student and more so students in an inclusive classroom. Let us continue to do what we can to enhance ourselves professionally. Internal and external support goes a long way in helping a teacher to stay positive despite the challenges.
