Activity 1.5 Creating an inclusive ethos and culture

Two factors that contributes to an inclusive ethos and culture are parents\teacher relationship.

Effective strategies for staff members to achieve inclusion.

Building a healthy relationship with parents and teacher is vital. Parents are  the one who known their children best, by providing information to assist teachers with strategies that will help facilitate their Childs inclusion. This allows a more effective approach with their inclusion.

Teachers should create an environment where respect and acceptance are not only spoken. It takes effort and an understanding of ones culture and ethos to have an inclusive environment.

This is so true a willingness to change or improve school culture must be the desire of  stakeholders within the community of learning.

I have seen first-hand janitorial staff making breakfast for teachers and demanding that they start the day with a nourishing meal and light banter before morning planning.

In turn, I have seen first-hand teachers collaborating to supply students with breakfast satisfying the need for nutrition before satisfying educational needs.

I have seen administrators, teaching staff, and janitorial staff work as a team to clean and sanitize classrooms to ensure a healthy environment is obtained.

I have seen teacher/educators entering and leaving the school compound in a happy frame of mind that remains the constant throughout the day despite the challenges of the day.

The power of positive thinking and the positive dispositions displayed by all persons in the school environment contribute to a positive school culture and ethos.
