I enjoyed learning about differentiated instruction and identifying learners needs.
Once you can identify your learners needs, you are better able to plan for them. As a result the class can be divided into groups based on the students individual needs without them having to move. Lesson can be taught using differentiated Instruction either through content, process and/or product. Students feel fully integrated into the class especially when they are given a variety of learning opportunities and are able to choose how they would like to respond when the product is also varied. It teaches students to take responsibility for their learning, helps them to work independently at a comfortable level, helps them grow as learners. It offers multiple assessment opportunities. It builds their self esteem as they feel a sense of accomplishment and achievement.
On the teacher's part it reduces re-planning and decreases demotivation from poor student performance. Generally, teachers plan for a curriculum not for the students in front of the them. When learners needs are assessed and planning surrounds those needs all benefit.
Hi Denise,
It is great when teachers enjoy doing their best and going the extra mile to ensure that the learners in their care are given equal opportunities. However to achieve the goal of inclusiveness in our schools and classrooms, educators need to continuously engage in professional development. This will help educators to better understand the learners and be prepared to meet their needs.
As times changes and educators are face with new challenges they need to find the correct techniques, strategies and resources to ensure that no one is neglected or falls through the cracks.
