2.7 Positive Behaviour Management Strategies

At the beginning of the term rules and behavioural expectations are conveyed to the students. They are made to understand that respect to the teacher is reciprocated and there are consequences to follow with disrespect. During the term, because of constant teacher/student interactions, they feel out the 'vibes' of the teacher and come to the conclusion that this teacher is not threatening, means well, allows for students to respectfully voice opinions, listens and assists with difficulties of the subject when they feel stuck. When work is of good quality, at  times it is read before the whole class and the student is openly praised.

I tend to do this at the start of the school year. We put them into visuals and place for all to see and it works well.

I tend to redirect students with over-active behaviours by giving meaningful tasks to do like packing away the library or the learning centres or simply tidying up the toys in the play area.
