3.9 Monitoring Tools

Is there anything else that you would want to include in the tool, to be confident that the school is working towards being an inclusive school?

In Monitoring Inclusivity, Resource 2, I would add: "All students should play together." It gives a level of social inclusion and social interaction with peers without feeling left out. True inclusion means that students are included in games with all peers regardless of their disabilities.

Good point. This can be done by implementing the Buddy system in schools.

I agree. Socialization has a way of boosting self confidence and that simple act can go a long way for some students with disabilities who are a bit introverted.

i have always looked at socialization as a tool that can help any individual including a child develop and progress. Once you are able to socialize and interact positively if builds one's self-esteem, communication skills, It helps one learn acceptable and unacceptable behaviours and yes it builds one's self confidence .

I agree with you. Children need to learn how to work together no matter their differences.

What better way for children to learn to accept, respect and appreciate their peers than through play. Play has no boundaries.

Great post! You made a valid point. There are some children who are just mature enough to know how to play with their peers despite their disabilities. On other hand, there are others who may need their Form Teachers and Teachers to speak to them first in order for them to make the children with disabilities feel more welcome and they can learn from each other.
