Activity 2.7 Strategy to positively manage behaviour

I had a little boy who would hit and use obscene language on the children without provocation. When this happens he would usually go to stand near a teacher. I observed that when he was near to the adult he would be fine and do what is asked of him. He would even carry on a conversation about home. He would often ‘act up’ when we were all in the group. With the support of the Administrator we both had a conference with the guardian. We learnt he had a lot going on at home and he couldn’t process the feelings he was having. We also learnt because he was no longer the baby of the home and negative behaviour was his way of getting the attention of an adult. With the help of everyone at the Centre and at home we praised him when he displayed positive behaviour and his friends helped with reminding each other of the rules of the group. I helped him identify his feelings and we agreed that he would come only when he was feeling to hit or use obscene language. With the help of these strategies being done in the home and continued at school he was able to start using his words and using obscene less.
