When a child displays disruptive behavior in the classroom, one strategy i have used is to give the child simple tasks to do eg; would you like to share the crayons for your friends today? or Would you like to choose the story for for story time?
This one child in particular, would have disruptive behaviors in the classroom almost everyday. So i would try different ways to get him to settle, but i realized that he would just act up again after a while.
After observing what are the triggers, nothing in the classroom seem to be the sticking out for me. After discussing the situation with the staff and of course his parents, i understood that his mother had a baby. She said he is okay and loves playing with his little brother and that's when i decided to try the strategy of giving him things to do in the classroom. I remember telling him, you're a big brother now so i know you can help me with.....and i would give him something to do everyday in the classroom. I wanted him to feel important and appreciated, so i would even give him stickers and say good job
That strategy worked most of the time, however, his behavior did improve a bit along with other strategies
