IEP

A training that i am most happy to have been apart of was provided by Autism for Belize it was based on the process of creating an Individualized Educational Plan for a child that has been diagnosed by a professional in the medical field. I have taught students with special needs before and creating a plan has always been 'hidden' meaning that if the child was not officially diagnosed then the plan made would be considered as differentiation. After taking the training it made me realize that there has to be some ground work that must me laid out inorder for a child to be referred to be tested and diagnosed. Only then can we begin an IEP process. The plan in its entirety made me think about other students who might not have the opportunity to get all A's on their report card but are able to show how they have progressed within a term or a school year. I am looking forward to the second installment of the training where we will actually write an IEP to gain first hand knowledge to take back and share with my other colleagues.
