Working with families

One way that worked at my school is building supportive parent support groups or committees such as the helping hand, volunteer, event planning and others.  Parent will decide which committee they want to sign up for and register for that committee. One teacher will be assign to a committee to monitor, give support and relay the needs of the school.

Working with families

Parents and teachers must work together for the benefit of the child. A committee can be formed which will include both parents and teachers to create a Parent Skills Bank. This will provide the school with a list of the parents and their skill making it easy for the same committee to request assistance whenever it is needed at the school whether it be repairs, organizing fund raisers or assisting teachers in the classroom with skills such as cooking, dancing or gardening.

Parents  are always willing to render assistance if given the opportunity. Therefore schools should make this a workable partnership.
