After reading Chapter 2 of the TESSA IE Toolkit I learnt that the teacher plays a critical role in the classroom.
The teacher has to model all the desired behaviors that is required of the students by using respectful words to promote the development of self-confidence and self-esteem, to allow the child to feel included in class.
The teacher should observe the pupils to get to know their strengths, weaknesses, learning styles and personalities to notice less apparent deficiencies and take appropriate actions.
A teacher must ensure all students feel valued. Students' opinions, perceptions and emotions can be different but they should all feel that they are important.
It is important for the teacher to adopt a fair attitude towards all children and organise activities that allow them to work together, interact and build their learning together. Teachers should encourage inclusive social behaviours such as mutual appreciation and respect, listening, tolerance and empathy.
Teachers need to be aware of the family and social environment of the child, and enable all learners to feel valued. This helps them to build their confidence in their ability and motivates them to strive to do better.
