Activity 2.7 Strategy to positively manage behaviour

The following is a strategy I have tried and it has worked well to positively manage children's behaviour during learning time.

Presently schools in my country like the one I work at are physically closed due to COVID 19 restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. However, all schools are Virtually opened and have transitioned to remote teaching and learning.

I teach children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old and I was able to work together with them to come up with a few simple rules that encourages positive behaviours among them and has helped our virtual classes to go so much more smoothly.

Every morning and sometimes before each session during the day children are gently reminded of those few simple rules, which are as follows -

- To get their listening ears ready, (placing hands by both ears)

- To get their looking eyes ready, (pointing to the eyes)

- Put on your thinking caps, (placing hands on the head).

By consistently reminding them of these simple rules the children have grown accustomed to the kind of positive behaviour that is expected of all of them and they are always praised and rewarded for displaying those behaviours. At times the children are also encouraged to remind their classmates about their school rules which is just amazing. Children are also reminded from time to time, that even though they are at home when it is learning time the space they are in becomes their "classroom", and are encouraged to follow the rules as they would if they were in physical school. These simple rules and reminders works not only to encourage their positive behaviour but it also causes a change in their mindset which makes the teaching and learning experience for all rewarding and enjoyable.

This system of 'reward' for good behaviour that works for Hamid also works...
