Activity 1.4

I remember while attending secondary school there was this on particular boy in my class that could not read. Whenever he was called upon to read anything in front of the class he just could not. I remember students making fun of him and I myself was thinking ' why couldn't he read". I also vividly remember most of the teachers belittling him instead of trying to assist  him. As a Special Educator now I realize that the educators at all levels failed this young man and he eventually dropped out of school. I think the unhelpful attitude towards this student by the teachers led to him feeling like a failure an eventually dropping out of the school system.

This was a sad situation and it hurts when teachers/educators add insult to someone's injury.  If one of his teacher just the time to show him that they cared and assist him, it would have had a more positive impact on him.  Lets pray and hope this be not our fate as educators.

creating an inclusive school

Yes I agree that if  children do not get the special  education  intervention that they need it can lead to school  drop out as well as students being  made fun off. Also children without special needs should be sensitized about the needs of their peers so they can better understand  and help them  teachers must also not make students feel bad for their  special needs and watch how they  treat these children because they will ne modeling behaviors that the children who are looking on will adapt as well.
