Activity 1.5

Two factors that I think are particularly effective in contributing to an inclusive ethos and culture are:

1) A very strong emphasis on celebrating difference and diversity through the curriculum, assemblies and the very colourful displays, which celebrate and enhance pupils’ learning.

2) Teachers and support staff promoting the respect of each individual.

I agree, in my school we also do the assemblies that sensitize both staff and students about diversity. I also think that the inclusion of HFLE, and Ethics in my school helps to sensitize students about appreciating diversity

Having attended denominational schools, I believe that frequently conducting assemblies is a great way to bring awareness to and educate the school body of cultural differences and how to respectfully appreciate and observe these.

Public acknowledgement of students as well as staff for their positive contributions to the school community is a way which can encourage respect of individuals.
