Activity 2.5 School policies to support inclusive education

  • Post your ‘favourite’ idea from the list. My favourite  idea from the list is" All children with disabilities have someone to play with at break time"
My suggestion for the policy is for the class teacher to generally sensitize the students about disabilities ,being disabled and having empathy.

To organize and give the student with a disability the opportunity to have  someone to play with at break. The teacher can create a daily or weekly schedule by dividing the class into  groups children  and include the child with the disability in the group.

In this way the child with the disability can have some friends to play with during break time and support in other areas at school.  .

The amount of children in group will depend on the total number of students that are in the class.

Agreed all children with disabilities must have someone to play with at break time. Teachers must sensitize the children about disabilities and encourage them to empathize.

Hello Vernice,

I agree with your suggestion for class teachers to make the children aware of learners with disabilities. Awareness makes it easier for children in the classroom setting to be more welcoming. And regardless of ones abilities they will be encouraged to show love, concern and have respect for each other.

One strategy the teacher can use to ensure Luis is able to remember his tasks in the lesson and have someone to play with at break time is to create opportunities where Luis can share with a school mate/peer what he learned and understood in a more casual setting. The peer will share also.
