I was selected to attend a five day professional development workshop on Sand Play therapy. This workshop consisted of theory as well as practical sessions. At the early childhood level there was a student who was displaying some emotional and behavioural issues which was having a negative impact on her learning. I engaged her parents in several discussions trying to find a source of her behaviour but they were uncertain as to what was triggering her behaviour. I explained to her parents about sand play therapy and asked their permission to engage in her in a couple sessions to see if it would help her. Consent was given and I began the sand play therapy sessions. I engaged my student in a couple sessions just observing and making anecdotal notes of her interactions with the plastic materials such as animals and people) in the sand. The three sessions I conducted assisted me in devising strategies to help her learn to manage her emotions and behaviour. I engaged the parents in further dialogue to try some of the strategies at home to help her when disruptive behaviour occurred.
