Activity 1.7 Monitoring Inclusive Schools

I worked at a school that made provisions for inclusion for example, through the physical environment. The door spaces were enlarged for wheel chair passage. They also installed ramps and rails for ease of access to the outdoor play area as well as the bathrooms.

Teachers also had to make other adjustments such as lowering the number of students in their class, creating developmental checklist, using special learning resources and simplifying activities. These methods proved to be effective because it did bring a sense of belonging to the students at the school and aided in their development.

Activity 1 .7

I also had the opportunity to work in a school where ramps and rail were installed to facilitate wheelchairs and also rails for help in toileting. Teachers also had help from special education aids as well as special education  teachers who created programs for special needs children when they visited once per week. Each week these educators would work along with the teachers and students and in some cases parents to belp the child.
