One Professional Development that I experienced was the reading for literacy course that was done with UNESCO. This was where they were using the Jolly Phonics method. I liked the fact that the course was for two weeks. The lecturers were people who were actually using the method. They demonstrated how to plan and execute the lessons. Teachers were able to practised the method. When they went back to there schools they were assigned persons who would come into the schools just to assist or give advice if you needed help. all the resources were given to the school for you to work with the children. The children were given incentives for a job well done and encouragement. Parent were also part of the programme at our school. They volunteered to read to the children and some made resources that can be used in the classroom. The students were really excited. All students were included. There were remarkable improvements by all students.
