Activity 3.5 Example from practice

In order for teachers to benefit from and take part in “learning study” I believe that an atmosphere similar to the one at Tanzania should be cultivated. Most times the presenter makes it difficult for you as a teacher to express your opinion as they take the comments (especially when negative) very personal. Teachers need to feel free to share their true feelings even if it is a negative comment. It would help you as a person to grow. Teachers also need to come to professional development with an open and willing attitude. As my administrator always says even though you may know the topic, there would be something which could enhance what you have learnt.

Learning study could be used as a mechanism for more collaboration among staff and would allow educators to concentrate on the learning styles and experiences of our students thus allowing all to be able to participate in the classroom.

I agree, by allowing participants to express their views or even their experience on certain topics during a session can also benefit the lecturer as they will now gain an awareness on how to enhance their lecture for future. However, this can only be achieved if participants are given the opportunity to share. Additionally, I have realized that even though you attend a session already the second time around you realize that there were something you missed.

As teachers we are expected to deliver the curriculum as effective as possible. Over the years we have applied various teaching strategies and techniques. However, in these changing time we must be open to welcome new ideas in learning how to intergrade technology and modern teaching strategies into our classroom to meet the needs of this changing world. Having recently participated in a webinar course I have acquired skills in the use in teaching tools to meet and fulfill the needs of children varying abilities.
