Week 1:6 Professional Development

Describe some professional development training that you have experienced that you felt was very effective and helpful, and made a difference to your practice.

Some professional development training which I experienced were workshops based on:

Gender Biased - how would one label a child if a boy wants to play with a doll or dress like a princess.

A teacher has to be open minded about not being able to label a child but to accept the child's choices and embrace the way a child expresses him or herself.

Laws pertaining to Child Abuse - Laws governing Child Abuse under Trinidad and Tobago amendment.

Having knowledge about the laws of child abuse in one's country can save a child's life. For example the child feels a sense of security to relate information to the teacher. This information should be recorded and dealt with swiftly and professionally.

Hi Radha

I was also engaged in a training on Laws pertaining to Child Abuse.  It was indeed an eye-opener, with a lot of knowledge gained and being guided as to how and what can be done to assist a child in this environment.
