Tell of two things that you will take forward from
this course into your practice.
- Firstly, within the past few years of my teaching
experience I have had an opportunity to include children with special needs and
disabilities in my classroom. At that time managing an ‘inclusive classroom’
was all new to me and of course I had my concerns. I had learn how to adapt in many ways;
my teaching style and the learning materials I provided, but most importantly
the way in which I dealt with each child as an individual in my classroom
setting. Reflecting on these experiences as I read through this course content,
reiterated to me the importance of having a changed mind set and the positive attitudes
towards inclusion a teach must possess. Going forward I will use the examples
and resources shared throughout this course to ensure that all children have
the opportunities they need to learn in a classroom environment where they feel
welcomed, safe, and have a sense of belonging regardless of their abilities.
- Secondly,
with the understanding that policies influence how teachers and children interact,
and develop mutual respect, improving the ethos and culture of my school is
important. Therefore, I will revisit the policies set in place for behavior management
at my school, with the intent to reinforce the policies outlined in the school’s
policy handbook for positive behaviour management and with collaboration and
the suggestions from my co-workers and administrator, be committed to
creating new policies where needed to develop and strengthen a positive inclusive
school ethos.
