3.6 School- Based Teacher Development (SBTD)

One challenge that might be present in my context is the willingness and extra effort of teachers to change and modify their way of delivery of content to students. Some teachers were taught in traditional classrooms and see it fit to teacher their students in a similar manner (“One size fits all” method of teaching). Some teachers possibly because of their personality, they prefer to work on their own and do not see the need or benefit to consult or collaborate with colleagues since they have undergone training as a teacher and think that they are adequately competent to handle their classrooms. Therefore, the negative attitude of teachers towards change is a major barrier when it refers to creating a high achieving and successful classroom of learners.

The opportunity which is presented to us for learning study is having access to the resources which can make this type of change/ consultation possible in the school climate. Firstly, there is accommodation which is the office, for teachers and administrators to consult with each other, have open discussions, share ideas, reflect and plan forward. Secondly, there is time allotted on the daily schedule for teacher preparation, reflection and consultation which allows for collaboration within the regular school hours for teachers.
