4.4 School Based Partnerships

If it really takes a village to raise a child, then statistics about the number of disabled children left outside of the education system is enough to jolt any local stakeholder in schools to partner with organizations in the community. We must not only talk, but do. When children are ignored, left idle and not actively engaged in productive ventures, parents and caregivers buckle under the pressures of financial strain and they or other family members turn to sinister acts which involves crime within the very community. Neighbours far and near, feel the negative effects of not assisting those who need it the most, at particular periods of their life. Inculcating usefulness and positive purpose in the ones most vulnerable will go a long way in giving them a sense of belonging, so they will not be seen begging on the streets, less instances of parental abuse will be noticed, they will be absorbed by businesses within the community, in terms of finding employment and they will find their place as a positively contributing member of society.
