4.10 Bringing it all Together

Two things which I will carry forward with me as an educator are:

1. What makes a good teacher in inclusive education: because I must be all embracing, seeing all children regardless of their learning styles, as deserving of quality education at all times.

2. School based teacher development. Once the timetable can be reconfigured to allow development sessions, I will make accommodations to indulge in professional teacher training. The employer has a right to steer the direction of his/her institution. While I as a teacher am encouraged to be a life-long learner, when I engage in professional development, I need to be rewarded in terms of upgrades and being properly remunerated for motivation's sake in a timely manner.

Wonderful choices Helen.

I must have a positive attitude, even if there are challenges. Plan with each student in mind, in order to reach them at their level.

Continually seek to find new ways to make the lessons come alive. Seek to enroll in continuous professional development, because I believe there is always more to be learn.

Bringing it all together

I agree Ruth we need to start with a positive attitude. We need to have a positive opened- minded attitude in becoming an inclusive teacher. We need to always be abreast of all the information needed to assist us with becoming an inclusive teacher.

I agree with you Helen. Two things I am taking from this training are:

1. The first change agent is myself. Through this workshop I am able to identify my strengths in how I have been contributing to an inclusive school and the gaps that I need to work on. For example  being more innovative and being willing to try new strategies. I really did appreciate the resources and hope to implement them where they are of relevance to my field.

2. That it really does take a village. The support of community organizations is  very important especially during this pandemic where more children are at risk of being left behind. Its important to engage and listen to the voices of the community stakeholders and pool resources together to create an environment (be it virtual or physical) that children feel heard, appreciated, valued and capable of achieving all they will like to.

Two things that I have learnt form this course are innovative ways to incorporate an inclusive classroom. The videos were very informative. I am amazed to see how other schools that are less fortunate have committed teachers who go out of their way to ensure no child is left behind. I have also learnt how important it is for the community and stakeholders to be involved with the school. when the school is supported by both the stakeholders and the community children feel appreciated, important and they become successful adults and will be able to give back to the community and this cycle goes on and on.

Activity 4.10

Two things that I get from the course are:

1. Enhancing the SBTD so that the teachers work collaboratively and improve practice and maybe in the process be recognised by the MoE

2. also working with different stakeholders including the community, NGOs and other professionals to enhance inclusivity

Suppose upgrading and enhanced renumeration does not come after SBTD, what next Helen?
