Activity 4.1

There were many aspects of this course that I appreciated and intend to integrate into my classroom going forward. Of these there were two that really stood out to me. The first was collaboration with peers. I must say that in the school that I am familiar with, there is not much collaboration between teachers in terms of sharing resources and sharing techniques that work. I think that this is one tool that will help all teachers to better cater to the needs of ALL students in their classroom This would also help teachers to identify student strengths rather than their weaknesses. If this is done and students are recognized for their strengths, their self esteem may increase which may lead to further positive growth and a truly inclusive classroom..

The second aspect I will adopt is creating a more positive ethos in my school and classroom. There are some things I already do which contributes to a positive ethos such as open door policy, reaching out to parents, getting specialist assistance when required, but the course has shown me the link between positive ethos and managing the classroom better. I will do this through better seating arrangements for group activities which will allow all students to be included, and setting a visible group of class rules. Positive reinforcement will also be adopted as well as the use of the buddy system so that no student will be left alone and excluded. This will ensure that all students learn socialization skills.
