Activity 1.5 Creating an Inclusive ethos and culture

Two factors that may contribute to good ethos and culture of a school are:

1)Partnership/support system with Administrator, teacher, parents and the wider community. By collaborating, common goals can be put in effect to facilitate the best educational experience possible for students.

2) Environment - It should be safe and welcoming in which a child can express oneself/culture. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children. It also helps them realize that we're all humans, despite differences in how we look or dress or what we eat or celebrate.

Activity 1.5 Creating an Inclusive ethos and culture

Both factors are important but i especially like the focus on the environment .the environment   can let a child know if he/she is welcomed, threatened ,if they matter, if there is concern. The ethos is experienced in the environment and is reflected in how     the teachers or other  children responds to another child.

Creating an Inclusive ethos and culture

Both factors mentioned by Anesha are very important. These two factors are important in creating ethos and culture in an inclusive school. Partnership is indeed important because it cannot be done by just a few teachers, there must be a collaborative effort from administration, parents and community. Also the environment must be inviting and conducive to both teaching and learning.

Activity 1.5

Yes Vernice I also like to focus on environment. I also believe that with  positive leadership, and the teacher as a professional driver can also  improve the ethos of the school. Culture in itself comes from society, the children and the teacher it impacts learning and teaching. Therefore understanding the children's culture  and the community's culture teachers can comprehend behavior and the ways in which the children learn or participate. Forming  partnerships with community and  families teachers can use as resources to assist in creating learning opportunities for all children therefore building on each child's culture. Building or creating inclusive ethos and culture in schools go hand in hand in a rich positive environment where experiences help enrich the children's development.

Comment Activity 1.5 Creating an Inclusive Ethos & Culture

Anesha

I am in total agreement with you regarding partnership, support system and adapting the environment as critical ingrdients for cultivating an inclusive ethos and culture.

However, drawing from my personal experences from the country/ culture I come from Awareness of Inclusion and Debunking false myths should happen before any sort of partnership and all that good stuff can happen.

Our world can be very cruel to those who don't quite fit in with societal norms there Education and Awareness is critical and should be the first step.

The support or partnership components are important. When people work together the students achieve more.
