Activity 4.2 Working with families

I believe that greater family involvement in children's learning is a critical link to achieving a high-quality education and a safe learning environment for every child.

The following is another example of how schools can work with families.

School - Family Partnerships for safe schools and improved learning.

Schools and families can team up to make schools safer, which is necessary for learning and a number one concern of parents.

This can be done by -

1. Establishing family-school partnerships to make safe schools a priority to improve the learning environment in schools and the neighbourhood.

2. Provide quality education and combine it with parent education to make lasting changes in a child's chances for improved conduct and better school behaviour.

3. Expand opportunities for parent contact through meetings and activities.

4. Encourage parental input in school decisions.

5. Reduce mistrust and cultural barriers, through parent resource centers, workshops, home visits and parent-teachers outreach teams.
