We are finally here at last!
“How can I create an Inclusive School
alone?” You may have asked yourself this
question just as I did.
Contemplating about creating an
Inclusive School may sound like a daunting task to an individual. However, as a teacher
or a school administrator, you are never alone in this. You are just but part of
teams, communities, and partnerships, all working for the benefit of all
children.
Did you know that “everyone can do something, and we can do more together?”!!
This is a summary of some of your
discussions on school partnerships with families and outside community organizations, in creating an inclusive school.
1. Working with
Families:
Examples
given included: - Having parents in the school board of management; Regular
Parents-Teachers meetings; School staff paying students home visits; Use of
Staff-Parents social media platforms
2.Working with outside organizations:
Sponsorship/scholarships
to needy children; Internship opportunities; Construction of classrooms and
other facilities; Donation of books, computers, and provision of digital
platforms; Medical check-up for children; Itinerant teachers; Involving School alumni
in school affairs.
3.Persuading school management make better links with
outside community:
Forming
alumni groups; Calling for stakeholders/ community meetings and highlighting
importance of collaboration for inclusion; Involving community organizations in
school activities.
It
