Summary of Week 4 Discussions

Hurrah!!

Hurrah!!

We are finally here at last!

“How can I create an Inclusive School alone?”  You may have asked yourself this question just as I did.

Contemplating about creating an Inclusive School may sound like a daunting task to an individual. However, as a teacher or a school administrator, you are never alone in this. You are just but part of teams, communities, and partnerships, all working for the benefit of all children.

Did you know that “everyone can do something, and we can do more together?”!!

This is a summary of some of your discussions on school partnerships with families and outside community organizations, in creating an inclusive school.

 1.     Working with Families:

Examples given included: - Having parents in the school board of management; Regular Parents-Teachers meetings; School staff paying students home visits; Use of Staff-Parents social media platforms

2.Working with outside organizations:

Sponsorship/scholarships to needy children; Internship opportunities; Construction of classrooms and other facilities; Donation of books, computers, and provision of digital platforms; Medical check-up for children; Itinerant teachers; Involving School alumni in school affairs.

3.Persuading school management make better links with outside community:

Forming alumni groups; Calling for stakeholders/ community meetings and highlighting importance of collaboration for inclusion; Involving community organizations in school activities.

It was interesting reading through your contributions and interacting with you. You are great people!  Thank you All. We have truly become friends in this community of practice, though virtually.

Hope you enjoyed the course just as I did.

It’s now time to reflect and walk the talk on the journey towards Inclusive School.

Looking forward to meeting you again….

Bye……..
