Activity 4.8 Supporting change
1. Policy makers should be able to evaluate the benefits this type of programme to show how it helps the children who are struggling academically. They should ask to see some sort of metric to show the improvement of the students who might b enrolled in such a programme.
2. The 'tools' that the Teachers concerned have available to them are:
1. Assessing learning
2. Using mind maps and brainstorming to explore ideas
3. Being a resourceful Teacher in challenging circumstances
4. Using, explaining and demonstrating to assist learning
5. Using group work in your classroom
6. Using investigations in the classroom
7. Tools for planning and carrying out investigations in Science
8. Working with large classes
9. Using the local community/environment as a resource
10. Planning and preparing your lessons
11. Using questioning to promote thinking
12. Researching in the classroom
13. Using role play/dialogue/drama in the classroom
14. Using storytelling in the classroom
15. Using new technologies
16. Working with multigrade classes.
2. The Community started a whole-school focus on literacy and harnessed the local community to help them build a school library,
A local Church undertook some fundraising activities so the school could print off stories from the African story Book website in the local language and a local charity donated books in English obtained from abroad.
