Bringing it all together

I have learnt how important it is to have a positive open- minded attitude in becoming and inclusive teacher. This will firstly aid me with becoming an inclusive teacher. These are some of the key points that I took away from this course in creating an inclusive school:

  • Inclusive education involves finding ways to support all children.
  • Every child have a right to an education.
  • Creating an inclusive school is a process, it takes time to create.
  • Everyone may it be staff, school management, stakeholders, parents, caregivers, local community, specialist etc. all play a role in creating an inclusive school.
  • Professionalism is very important, therefore teachers should be trained.
  • School should be prepared both in structure, resources and staff.
  • Every avenue should be exhausted to ensure that each child is comfortable in their environment and looks forward to coming to school.
  • Give people the opportunity to interact with the children, socialization is important to help with misconceptions.
  • Create a culture of involvement allow everyone who can contribute positively to do so.
  • Respond to all children's need and this is where support systems play an important role. Encourage the support.

Finally I have learnt that everything takes time, it is all about mindset, support and you must be willing to learn and have a good self-esteem and most importantly know in your heart that each child is uniquely different and they all need to learn life skills to survive when they leave school.
