1.6 Professional Development

In December 2019, I attended a Professional workshop that was done with UNESSCO and the Ministry of Education. It was the Think Equal Programme. The aim was to build on children's social and emotional intelligence. One of the first things that was shown to us was a brown crayon, the crayon represented our complexion. We were told that "no one is black or white, we are all different shades of brown. UNESSCO sent material which was used in the classroom. Through their activities various learning styles were used such as role play, songs, discussion and art work. Teachers noticed the confidence children were building and healthier relationships with their peers. They were able to identify their feelings an manage their emotions. I found this programme to be helpful to children and teachers because everyone has equal value.
