Hello
The display of rules has been an age old technique adopted by school systems universal over decades. I support rules but I don't support how it is derived and in some cases enforced.
It is not what you say but how you say it
It is not what you do but how you do it
The display of rules in my class work very positively but there is difference:
At the beginning of the term, I have the class together with myself design the 5 -7 clear and short rules that WE ALL agree to being fair and in accordance with the general school rules.
I use simple teacher/ student language and get the students involved in creating the class rules chart using their creative and cooperative skills
It is a class effort so when one student does not comply the other students remind that non-compliant student that this was a joint agreement WE ALL agreed to .
This has worked for my class and has developed the student to become accountable and responsible for both their choices and behaviours in and out of the classroom environment
Try it ... it's not what it is how we say it and do it ....INCLUDE Them!
