Partnership with different groups and teams inside and outside the school is an important feature towards a successful inclusive schools. Partnership not only satisfies infrastructural needs and improve school inventories but improve lives and attitudes.
The practice of educational systems using itinerant teachers across schools have been beneficial to teachers, community, parents and students especially those with special needs.
In looking at the case study of Sierra Leone, we see itinerant teacher Abdul, a specialist inclusion teacher offers support to teachers as he travels from community to community. Some of his roles were to ; aid in the making of teaching aids, help schools to adapt curriculum to suit the needs for individual planning, observe unqualified teachers and make suggestions, help individuals students with mild cases such as behaviour management, seat activities and penmanship. Abdul like other itinerant teachers across the world as they work focus on ways to not only keep disadvantaged children in school but ensure that while in schools they are fully engaged in their learning.
In Jamaica, the practice of itinerant teachers is also a common one. Here the Ministry of Education deployed Mathematics and Literacy Coaches(Itinerant teachers) to various schools across the island as they travel they offer teaching strategies and methodologies to teachers to assist them in meeting national standards for improvement in literacy and numeracy. The effort is a good one but more commitment is needed by the Ministry officials in creating a policy to govern this practice to make it more impactful.
While some itinerant teachers work for the good of school, its parents, its students, some upon their arrival at the institution came with a schedule to only monitor the behavior of a particular child and offer no real support to the other students or teachers. This is a practice that is also common and should not be seen in my opinion as wrong since those itinerant teachers could be working under directives.
However, whatever the style or methods of operation having itinerant teachers is a positive inclusion towards creating inclusive schools.
