2.9 Tessa's Toolkit

As an educator, we are philosophically committed to student diversity and we must appreciate that learning differences are natural and positive. We need to focus on identifying and capitalizing on individual students' interests and strengths. Systemic support, collaboration, effective classroom practices, and a universal design approach can make inclusive education work so that students with disabilities have the same access to the general education curriculum and to classmates as any other student and the same opportunity for academic, social, and emotional success. None of these can prove effective if it is not championed by the love, dedication and passion of a teacher who is willing to look past differences.

This Toolkit opened my eyes even more to the fact that with proper planning and a holistic, positive attitude, we can theoretically and practically reach and teach any student with any challenges.
